Biography
« Alice Di Piazza is not only a talented pianist… actually I’m impressed by her highly musical achievents and by her ability to transmit the soul of what she performs ».
Aldo Ciccolini
Described by Krystian Zimerman, as “a high talented and musical pianist with creative and poetic gifts…a very promising young pianist” Alice Di Piazza is no stranger to international and renowned stages.
She is regularly invited to perform in recital and as soloist with orchestra all over Europe, Russia, Switzerland, Baltic and Scandinavian countries at prestigious venues like the KKL in Luzern, the International Holland Music Session, the Palais des Beaux Arts in Brussel, the Wiltz Luxembourg Festival, the Klavierissimo International Piano Festival in Zürich, the Teatro Massimo of Palermo, the Grande Salle du Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles, the Klaipeda Spring Music Festival in Lithuany, the Societé de Musique de La Chaux-De-Fonds in Switzerland and many more.
Alice Di Piazza began her piano studies at the age of five.
Still a student, she was awarded the first prizes in several piano competitions.
After having received the first prize at the “G. Battista Pergolesi” Piano Competition in Italy she got a scholarship at the London Royal Academy of Music where she took advanced courses under the tuition of the pianist Enrique Arias, one of the last pupils of the Chilean pianist Claudio Arrau.
Since then Alice addressed herself to an intense period of specialization studies with internationally renowned pianists such Krystian Zimerman and Wieslaw Szlachta.
She has also benefitted from the valuable advices of the pianists Murray Perahia and Maria Joao Pires.
While never losing sight of her piano specialisation, she broadened her horizons through a deep study on counterpoint and fugue, orchestra conducting and composition.
Alice began to play as a piano soloist when she was twelve, in the renowned Messina’s Theatre “Vittorio Emanuele” with a piano recital devoted to Robert Schumann’s piano works.
Her recitals have fascinated worldwide audiences and international critics.
She has caused headlines like “Extraordinary performance”, “Masterfully”, “Great virtuosity and incredible interpretation”, “Perfect balance of music and poetry”, “Remarkable interpretation…an excellent musical event” ,“Full of impressive sensitivity and lyricism”.
Alice has frequently made radio and television appearances with the National Radio and TV of Lithuania, the Radios Suisse Romande Espace 2 and Canal Alpha, and the Radio televisione Italiana RAI 3.
She appears regularly in duo with the Russian cellist Ivan Monighetti.
She has often worked in conjunction with contemporary music composers and she has premiered a large number of works dedicated to her.
In 2011 she met the Russian composer Sofia Gubaidulina with whom she started a productive collaboration that is still lasting, and that has deepened her knowledge of the composer’s piano works.
As Sofia Gubaidulina has recently recognised « Alice’s unique, creative, and original talent is to combine technical perfection and artistic virtuosity with meaning and willpower. What a revelation! Thus we might say, without exaggerating, that the renowed Italian pianist Alice Di Piazza is a highly talented pianist with a strong personality and a genuine relation to life and art. Technical skills and artistic talent, expressiveness and imaginative power -Alice combines all these qualities in a really creative act. I am sure that an artist of such profundity and calibre will be received by the public as a true gift”.
Alice is regulary invited to give piano and chamber music masterclasses all over Europe.
